"Chard"
10 pgs. Appeared first time in Hot
Stuf' #5 (1977). Reprinted in
Richard Corben Complete Works
#2 (1986).
Story: Herb Arnold. Art: Richard Corben
(written sign © 1977 Richard Corben). Lettering: printed
(Hot Stuf').

Keywords: Evil idol. Assassins. Betrayal. Monster. Taboo
graveyard.
Synopsis: Chard, the warrior, has a mision to bring the
magical black idol to it's next owner. He finds a voluptuous
girl on his way, and assassins behind him, but girl and warrior
escapes. Assassins are everywhere and they set him up. There
will be fight on a taboo graveyard, but girl is not what she
seems.
Comment: Brilliant B&W artwork, though printed letters
make it a little bit stiff. Corben uses zipatone only when it
is needed; when Chad is lying with the naked girl (on page three),
he has brilliant zipatone muscles. Story by Herb Arnold is part
of the 44 page fantasy novel, "Tales Out of Eirvthia, book
II", covered entirely Hot Stuf #5. Novel contains
four separate stories (by separate artist), which are linked
together by continuing story by Herb. Corben's comic survives
without other stories, but it needs cover up them more than for
example "Dweller in
the Dark" (which is also a part of a bigger story).
